Andy Phillips of Andy's Orchids has built the largest collection of species orchids in the world! This is one of my favorite places to visit in San Diego. Andy has specimens from every genus, common to very rare, with over 7500 species and at least 750,000 individual plants available for purchase in at least 7 climate-controlled greenhouses plus numerous outdoor sections! He also keeps, propagates and sells many other tropical, temperate and desert plants like succulents, begonias, climbing plants, ferns and more! There are prized specimen plants in every section of the property and even some show gardens. The seaside community of Encinitas, located on the northern half of coastal San Diego County, California, has the perfect year-round weather, with a high humidity but cool breeze, to raise many epiphytes. Most of the tropical species are kept in heated greenhouses while montane species are kept air-cooled, shaded buildings! Four times a year, Andy and his wife host open-houses where guests can visit the facility and purchase plants. His brother, Harry, and many friends, employees and the interns are available to answer questions and make recommendations. You can also book private tours and visits by visiting the links below. Many plants can be purchased on the website, as well! www.andysorchids.com 734 Ocean View Ave, Encinitas, CA 92024 PLEASE CALL BEFORE PLANNING A VISIT!
