My first impressions? Yangon is a city of contrasts—chaotic yet captivating, steeped in history yet full of resilience. Walking through its streets, I’m surrounded by colonial-era buildings, golden Buddhist temples, bustling markets, and quiet Islamic enclaves, all coexisting in an unexpected harmony. There’s a raw energy to this place, and despite Myanmar’s challenges, the people’s warmth and perseverance stand out. One of the biggest surprises was witnessing Ramadan in Myanmar. I visited several mosques, met devoted worshippers, and joined in for Taraweeh prayers, experiencing the deep sense of faith and unity within the community. As the sun set, I shared iftar with locals, tasting flavorful street food and seeing firsthand how they come together despite being a religious minority. Of course, no trip to Myanmar is complete without diving into its incredible food scene. I got my first taste of Mohinga, Myanmar’s beloved fish noodle soup, packed with bold flavors and a rich, savory broth. I also tried Nan Gyi Thoke, a thick noodle salad tossed with chicken, spices, and a flavorful mix of toppings—an absolute must-try! But is Myanmar safe to visit? With the country often in the news for political unrest, many travelers have concerns. In this video, I share my raw, unfiltered experience, from how locals react to foreigners to the overall atmosphere in Yangon today.
