Three Trains - Part 2: The Q Train

Steam, diesel, electric. Narrow, standard and broad gauge. This one has it all! In late August 2025, I travelled on the overnight XPT from Sydney to Melbourne on a Friday night. Saturday saw a trip on the Bellarine Peninsula's Q Train 'dining experience' behind former Tassie diesels Z1 and Z4, while Sunday witnessed Steamrail's epic Gippslander tour out to Bairnsdale and back with locomotives A2 986 and A66. Come aboard all three, and check out all manner of other trains and trams were encountered around the Melbourne CBD along the way. In Part 2 we board the Q Train for a leisurely lunchtime roll through the Bellarine Peninsula countryside between Drysdale and Queenscliff. At the front of the train are newly restored former TasRail diesels Z1 and Z4. Afterwards, we catch the Geelong Flyer ferry back to Melbourne at sunset before hunting trains and trams around the CBD into the night.
