Today, we're learning that more and more people who obtained a YouTube Premium subscription with a VPN are having their subscription manually cancelled. Many companies out there offer different prices for their service depending on where the customer is located. For example, those of us in the United States are required to pay $14/month right now right a single subscription to YouTube Premium. . .or $23/month for a family plan. However, if you are living in the country of Ukraine then you can get a single subscription to the service for just under $2.50 per month. But we can't just choose Ukraine as our origin country when signing up for the service. People found out that they could to this if they used a VPN and set their origin country as Ukraine. They also need to use an international payment card so that the money is sent as their own currency, preventing people from just using the VPN and paying with USD. The system seemed to work for a while but now it looks like Google is cracking down on these subscriptions. Multiple people on Reddit and other social networks are showing screenshots of emails they have received that show their subscriptions are being cancelled. There's no other reason given, other than your subscription is being canceled and your access to YouTube Premium will end at the end of that billing cycle. But it looks as if the one common thread in these reports are that they're coming from people who used the VPN and currency workaround that allowed them to get a subscription for cheaper than they normally would have been able to. So Google has caught on and has flagged a number of accounts that had abused the system. Oddly enough, Google has not come out and said anything official about these cancellations, so I suspect we'll hear something about this in the near future. Possibly after they update the YouTube Premium terms of service to specifically mention how this type of action is no longer allowed. But I suspect this will be another cat and mouse game where the community may end up finding another way around it.
