The refit of the 34.75m/ 114'0 classic Feadship superyacht Beija Flor

Beija Flor was launched in 1968 as Karimor V for Beverly Hills real estate owner Barney Randall Morris. The 34.75m/ 114'0' yacht was built by Feadship/ C. van Lent & Zonen at De Kaag after an exterior design and naval architecture by Frits de Voogt and an interior by Marjorie A. Bedell of Cannell & Chaffin. The current Dutch owner purchased the beautiful canoe stern yacht in 2012. Although the yacht was last refitted in 2009 (with completely new technical installations installed), the worse condition of the tank tops (the covering deck plates over the double bottom of the yacht’s hold) required a necessary follow-up refit. Henk van der Vaart, who has done many successful refit projects including the famous 1963 Feadship built Santa Maria one year earlier was once again appointed as Refit and Yard Manager. The project started at the Wed.K. Brouwer Scheepswerf BV in Zaandam October last year and is now nearing completion. With a list op 150 topics, the tank tops were not the only point of attention. Having 110v throughout the yacht, Henk and the captain faced quite some challenges purchasing electic systems with the 230v used throughout Europe. The captain recently purchased 200 Dutch lamp bulbs of 50w, which defenitely will give a romantic light effect running at half strength. Happily the owner decided to maintain many original elements. Beija Flor is expected to leave the shed on 21 July. Of course we will keep you updated how Henk and his team will bring Beija Flor back to her former glory.
