Since organelles are often given different colors, it doesn't differentiate that cytoplasm would also include the organelles while cytosol would not. And while we do want to emphasize: the diagrams are NOT incorrect- instead, it's just that by not including cytosol, it doesn't differentiate between the two. We may decide to differentiate them more going forward as we just never mention the liquid portion, cytosol. We only talk about cytoplasm as a collective unit. The question of lysosomes in plants is a debated one! We often say "most" plants in this video do not have lysosomes - as our favorite peer-reviewed textbook Openstax states [our listed source here for these comparisons] https://openstax.org/books/biology-ap... However, you will find many excellent sources that seem to conflict on this topic. Plant vacuoles that function like lysosomes can even have some of the digesting enzymes that lysosomes in animal cells do. It can matter whether one defines this word based on what it does (its function) or a specific structural definition for lysosome. However, we think it's a great point that how it is defined makes a huge difference. It reminds us of a Short we recently released regarding biology vocabulary    • Biology Definition Discussions  - Amo...   And we think it is important to know that plant cells can do these functions whether one calls it a lysosome or a vacuole. We also find it interesting to mention: the Wikipedia page for "lysosome" has a portion dedicated to this debate and lists some sources for both.
