The PercuDyn implant is a facet-allocated dynamic stabilization device for the lumbar spine. It works by limiting extension for better load sharing. It unloads the degenerated disc, thus reducing load transmission and abnormal movement through the disc, maintaining segment mobility while controlling abnormal movement, thus alleviating low back pain. It is composed of two pieces 1) a titanium alloy cannulated 4.5-mm anchor and 2) a cannulated PCU (polycarbonate urethane) stabilizer. It has the advantage of being placed through a percutaneous procedure with a minimal incision of aprox. 11 mm. This is a minimally invasive procedure with two incisions smaller than the size of a penny. The surgery is done with the aid of a fluoroscope to precisely place the implants. On average, the surgery itself takes 20 minutes, and the patient is discharged the same day of the surgery. If the patient has a "light" job, he or she can go to work is as little as 3-4 days.
