Rev. Padre Claudio Giacomo Moscatelli, CP. (1930-2024) Funeral Mass at St. Gabriel Parish, Karungu, and Interment at Golgotha Evangelization Center's Passionate Cemetery, January 8, 2025, led by Rt. Michael Otieno Odiwa, Bishop of Homa Bay Rev. Padre Claudio Giacomo Moscatelli, CP was born in Italy on April 6, 1932, to Mr. Riccardo Moscatelli and Mrs. Ermelinda Greppi of Calcinate - Bergamo. He was baptized on April 10, 1932, and confirmed on July 9, 1944, at Santa Maria Sesta Godano Parish. He joined the Congregation of the Passion (Passionists) and was admitted into the Novitiate House in Cameri (Italy) on September 22, 1950. He professed on September 23, 1951, and made his perpetual profession on September 23, 1954. Padre Claudio was ordained a priest on May 31, 1958. Besides his Bachelor's Degrees in Philosophy and Theology, Padre Claudio had a great love for music and had a Master's (Licentiate) Degree in Music (earned in 1977 in Rome). Many would remember him as a priest who used to move from the altar to the musical organ. Padre Claudio was sent to Kenya (Kisii Diocese) as a missionary on November 12, 1978. Since then, he has worked in Ulanda Parish (1978), Karungu Parish (1979–1981 and 1986–1995), Rakwaro Parish (1981–1982), Ushirika Passionist Community Nairobi (1982–1985). In 1993, the Diocese of Homa-bay was created from Kisii Diocese. Padre Claudio was sent to the New Diocese's Tonga Parish (1995-1996), Macalder Parish (1996–2010), Tonga Passionist Children’s Home (2020-2021) and Golgotha Evangelization Center – Karungu (2010–2020 and 2021 to December 22, 2024). Padre Claudio was also the Superior of the Passionist Missionaries in Kenya from 1986 to 1992. Padre Claudio had a great missionary spirit and a love for children. He built Churches/outstations in both Karungu and Macalder Parishes, began several primary and secondary schools in Macalder, a Technical School (TVET) for girls in Karungu, and the famous Bridge of Life in Macalder. In the last years of his life, Padre Claudio became weak, weighed down by diabetes and old age. From time to time, he could go to Italy for medical check-ups, but his failing health did not dampen his passion and love for the mission. Padre Claudio remained close and in communication with his niece Christina (a daughter to his brother) over the years. He had really longed to die and be buried in Golgotha (Kenya) and God granted him his wish when he breathed his last in his room at Golgotha Evangelization Center on Sunday morning, December 22, 2024.
