Darwin Dean and Tom Lehman, assemble a panel of industry-leading experts in hopes of conserving the Hiawatha golf club. Darwin Dean introductions. First, Andy Komor, MA, PE, VP at Pacific Advanced Civil Engineering, Inc., “Water Engineering ...in partnership with nature”, is an expert on golf course hydrology. He will present an alternative concept that addresses flooding while retaining the integrity of the historic eighteen-hole course. Second, PGA Golfer and golf course designer Tom Lehman, and landscape architect Tom Oslund, FASLA, FAAR, Principal/Partner and Director of Design, O2 Design, Minneapolis|Chicago, will be present to share their thoughts about course design and to answer questions. Third, Charles Birnbaum, FASLA, FAAR, CEO and Founder of The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), will explain why additional research is needed to understand the Master Plan’s impact on historic and cultural resources, data that would inform any proposed redesign requiring State or Federal funds. The Master Plan (p. 38) states that the proposed design will be subject to review pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The CTLF has decades of experience with Section 106 reviews. Birnbaum will explain why the current nine-hole proposal would fail to secure approval. It's our hope that we are developing a working partnership with MPRB that finds a solution to flooding while maintaining the integrity of this nationally significant historic site. For background, we've included links to the NBC Sports Golf Channel story last month about Hiawatha, and to the discussion at the Park Board last July when it rejected the 9-hole Plan. https://www.golfchannel.com/video/hia... • Hiawatha Golf Club Debate & Vote July 21, ...
