Ok, this is my new Terra Nova Voyager Four season Semi Geodesic tent. I have decided on this tent after a friend of mine found it at a cracking price and it was something I couldn't turn down. Now, I am a Trailstar, rustic type of lad, however, make no bones, I want a bomber tent for the high plateaus of Scotland for Winter. And, I guess for the lovely summer weather whereby, it's given up absolutely atrocious weather. Now, the TS will handle the weather fine, but the shelter is solely dependent on its stake points. Plus, it's a hell of a lot of rolling in mud and shite to get it right in grim weather. I went from tents to the TS and its just an alternative, one tough alternative. For a four season tent it weighs 1.9kg packed weight. Pack seperate, minus bags etc; 1.8kg which for me is tremendous and totally acceptable given the tough materials Terra has used here; Fly is 6,000 HH Sil super strong item. The floor is 7,000hh. Even the inner is dwr treated and apparently 3,000 hh. But with a huge mesh at the back which obviously could cause a problem. This leads to the biggest caveat, inner first. I've been assured there is a way to miniseries the exposure of rain etc to the inner. And I'm pretty confident with a few pitches ill manage it very, very quick. I love the free standing nature of this shelter and the ability if I pitch on shitty ground, or flow of storm changes I can simply get out and turn around. Bosh! My TS failed on a severe winter camp at Sprinkling where the rather deep snow, gave way to a significant thaw from the ensuing storm/rain. So my TS front stake point (eastons) misguidedly thought was bomber, came out in the slush. Bear in mind this was hard packed snow, three hours prior. Simply, by virtue of wind battring the shelter at about 60mph and the thaw the stake oscilated and created a hole larger than the skinny easton. I later realised 8 inch stakes, more like pegs IMHO do not cut the mustard at all. In all honesty, all stakes apart from the huge terra stakes would struggle. In my Voyagers case, I could have picked up the tent and moved it up the hill and stake Down. You'll notice only two guy lines and Terra says this is all you need for the Gorms in harsh winter. However, the voyager has two large webbing loops further to the front. Jon at Terra says "use these for the belt and braces approach". Awesome!
