It also provides direct connectivity to the upcoming Dholera International Airport at Navagam, located about 20 km (12 mi) from Dholera SIR. Significance: It's a key part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and the Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme. The expressway aims to boost industrial growth, attract investment, and support the development of Dholera as India's first Greenfield Smart City. Construction: The project is being managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Construction is divided into four packages, according to Wikipedia. Current Status (as of May 2025): The Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is nearing completion, with over 91% of the work finished. The expressway is expected to be fully operational by May 2025. Cost: The total construction cost (excluding land acquisition) is approximately ₹3,196 crores, with a total project cost (including land acquisition) estimated at ₹4,373 crore. A link road to Dholera International Airport is being constructed at a cost of ₹550.49 crore. Features: The expressway is access-controlled, designed for high speed (120 km/h) and efficiency, according to Dholera Prime. It will include features such as: Service lanes Truck bays and rest areas Provisions for future expansion to six lanes Toll booths and surveillance systems Emergency response facilities A 4.5m x 7m wildlife crossing and a cloverleaf interchange for safety. Environmental Initiatives: The project emphasizes sustainability, utilizing recycled waste from Ahmedabad's landfills and fly ash from thermal plants for embankments. A green belt with over 97,000 trees is also planned.
