'The Turning of the Tide' is a song inspired by the life of Willie Campbell. Willie was a disabled artist who played the Musical Saw on the streets of Belfast for decades upto his death in the late 1960's. He was a well known musical institution back in the day, name checked in Phil Coutler's Autobiography, and even gets a mention in a Van Morrison song. Matt McGinn was lucky to be shown a video of him by a friend who worked in Northern Ireland Screen as she prepared it for the Northern Ireland Digital Archives. The video left Matt transfixed as he saw Willie, captured by a news team, playing the tune of Danny Boy on the saw, flawlessly. Matt was driven to create a new suite around Willie and his playing and it was recorded live in the now ruined Carlisle Memorial Church where Willie would have frequented. The song features on Matt's new album 'Behind Every Door' that you can pre-order below. Pre-order the album on CD or digitally now https://mattmcginn.bandcamp.com/album...
