This is because none of these podcast recorders have line inputs (as oppose to the Tascam Mixcast 4 by the way) In this video I explain why you cannot simply put a signal chain between your mic and the Podtrak P4 (because you will get a horribly distorted sound) and how you can make it work. This way you can have a Zoom Podtrak P4 (190€) + i.e. a dbx 286s (160€) work together producing the close-to-perfect voice processing signal chain: pre-amp - high-pass filter - compressor - de-esser - bass boost - clarity/exiter - downward expander (=de-breather) - limiter .. from which the Zoom Podtrak P4 only has a high-pass filter (called Lo-Cut one the device) and a Limiter.
