For those that are new, in 'Surviving Dating' we will be unpacking a variety of topics including gender roles, past traumas, broken family dynamics, femininity and masculinity, sex, and much more. I know that today's topic may get some mixed responses, however it's a topic that we have to talk about: Kevin Samuels (sigh). Very controversial. Mildly problematic. However, also very accurate on some topics. I recently watched his live stream discussing whether or not high value and/or competitive men should be dating outside of their race. This topic was SO relevant as I have been VERY open about my thoughts on black men demeaning black women and placing other races on a pedestal, due to their dating preferences. While this is a very valid issue, Kevin Samuels' topics have been causing me to do some hard but honest introspection. As someone who finds more struggle than success with men, it makes you wonder: at what point do women question if they're a part of the problem? Specifically, when do black women own up to their involvement in failed relationships or lack thereof? Are black men justified in their decision to date outside of their race? Do black women struggle with accountability? Are we glorifying independence and being single more than we should be? Do we have an issue with femininity and being vulnerable?
