Using Passing chords is a beautiful way to embellish and vary your chord progressions. It is also a very common device in both Jazz and Neo Soul since diatonic passing chords are easy to use in almost any context without getting in the way. In this video I will take a look at some of the possibilities we have in terms of using diatonic passing chord. All the harmony in the lesson are chords found in the C major scale, and the chord progression I am using is a I VI II V in C major. The lesson covers a few examples of using diatonic passing chords as stepping stones moving between each of the chords. The techniques used are clear and easy to follow and I also discuss taking this from comping or chord playing into soloing and using passing chord arpeggios.
