The Fake True Story Behind Bloodsport

1988’s Bloodsport is a classic. If you’ve never seen it, the film follows this U.S. army captain named Frank Dux who goes AWOL to participate in a secret invitation-only fighting tournament called the Kumite. Dux has to make it through the tournament and face a succession of deadly warriors so he can defend the honour of the Tanaka clan, a Japanese family with a martial arts tradition that he was basically adopted into. But the best part about Bloodsport, is that it REALLY happened. Frank Dux, the Kumite, going AWOL, getting chased by the cops, it’s all real. At least... according to movie. Well, here’s the thing.
