Pre-Lab #8 Template Mendelian Genetics: Fast Plants Some plants have small hairs called trichomes on their leaves, while other plants do not produce trichomes. Plants without trichomes are referred to as glabrous, which is derived from the Latin for quot;bald quot;. Sometimes, a mutation can cause a plant with trichomes to become glabrous. Two pictures of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana are shown below. Normal (wildtype) Arabidopsis plants have trichomes. A mutant plant has been found that lacks trichomes. A cross is made between these two true-breeding plants. Plant with trichomes (wildtype) Plant without trichomes (glabrous) Note: Make up your own symbols for the wildtype and glabrous alleles. If the wildtype allele is DOMINANT: b) If the wildtype allele is RECESSIVE: F1 genotype(s) and phenotype(s): F2 genotype(s) and phenotype(s) (use a Punnet square!)
