GRATEFUL DEAD — PITTSBURGH, PA — 3/6/1981 (Night Two of Two) Venue: Stanley Theater Date: Friday, March 6, 1981 Tour: Winter / Spring 1981 Night Two in Pittsburgh — and the Grateful Dead return to the legendary Stanley Theater for the second chapter of this two-night run. If Night One was the opening statement, Night Two is the reply: the band knows the room, the crowd is fully warmed up, and the energy tends to run deeper and freer. Early 1981 is a prime stretch in the Brent era — tight playing, lively tempos, and those improvisational turns that can only happen when everyone on stage is listening hard. 🎙️ SOURCE / TAPER NOTES (PLEASE READ) This upload comes from a digital copy of a master stereo audience recording, made with 2x Nakamichi 300 microphones into a Sony TC-D5M. The taper recorded about 10 Grateful Dead shows from 1978–1981, and notes that some tapes have disappeared over time — and that they never uploaded these because they assumed someone else made a better tape. Thankfully, this one survived. Taper notes: recorded just under the balcony, quiet crowd, no real intrusions. The taper also recalls that at some point (before the show or at set break) a security guard demanded money to keep recording, and they ended up giving him $5 or $10. They also mention that the sound changes at the beginning of Set 2 (not sure if equipment or PA). Please use reasonable volume — this may not be tracked perfectly and could have loud moments.
