Extra Time: Remembering Dad and the Time They Wish They Had

They thought they had more time. Karolina and Tom met as students in Boston and built a life filled with curiosity, faith, and quiet joy. Together, they were raising three young children, Sophia, Emma, and Zach, and imagined growing old side by side. ALS changed that future. When Tom was diagnosed, their children were just nine, six, and two. With the support of ALS United Mid-Atlantic, the family found guidance, compassion, and a community that helped carry them through the most difficult days. Tom passed away the night before the 2014 ALS United Ride. The next morning, Karolina rode in his honor. In the years since, the entire family has continued to show up at the Jersey Shore ALS United Ride, together. They ride for Tom. They ride for other families facing ALS. They ride for more research, more support, and more time. Because love does not end. It lives on in their family, and it keeps them moving forward. Our mission is to unite and empower the ALS community through a collaborative approach to fostering bold research initiatives, advancing national and state advocacy, and providing comprehensive care and support to individuals and families affected by ALS.
