We've created a video to help with the donning and doffing process. Below is the written version of the video. 1. Layout the Humeral fracture orthosis and ensure that the thinner non-padded plastic pieces are sitting over the padded plastic pieces. 2. Pull a Cotton Stockinette over the arm to protect the skin from the plastic. The stockinette should cover the shoulder as well. 3. Position the Humeral Fracture orthosis on the arm so the padded pieces are aligned with the long axis if the arm and they are opposite each other (equal space in the anterior and posterior). 4. Ensure the non-padded pieces are sitting inside the padded pieces when positioned on the arm. 5. Slide the Velcro through the loops and apply with light/medium pressure. 6. Next, apply the shoulder strap by passing it under the opposite arm axilla (armpit) and passing through the loop. The Velcro can be adjusted in the front and/or back to make donning easier. 7. Next, return to the humerus/arm straps and tighten each one starting with the more distal/lower strap. Loosen the Velcro and secure the padded pieces with your hand then pull the strap towards the loop until you feel resistance. Re-apply the Velcro. 8. Finally, apply the forearm support strap by ensuring the terry cloth side is facing towards the body. Position the Velcro on the brace in the middle of the arm and then passes other the opposite shoulder under the wrist and Velcro back onto itself. Adjust for comfort. 9. If swelling in the forearm occurs apply elastic stockinette over the forearm and bring up to cover the distal 1-2” of the humeral fracture orthosis. 10. If able to tighten the orthosis to the point that the padded pieces are contacting the point that the strapping passes through the non-padded piece then the orthosis will have to be adjusted by the Orthotist. 11. If having any issues please contact the Orthotist.
