Spirit of Matsu - a powerful, emotionally-charged documentary short about the annual Matsu Festival in Taiwan. The documentary short takes you on a thrilling journey to Chaotian Gong Temple in Beigang, Yunlin County, Taiwan for the annual Matsu Festival. The Matsu Belief has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage or Living Heritage and the Matsu Festival is considered one of the greatest cultural festivals in the world. Over the course of the week-long festival, this sleepy countryside town transforms into a colorful and vibrant, firework-filled birthday celebration, culminating with ancient rituals only found at Chaotian Gong Temple. The short film brings you along on the adventure where you will see all aspects of the festival, from festival and Matsu palanquin preparations to the palanquins being carried over fireworks, to prayer ceremonies, and processions visiting Chaotian Gong Temple from Taiwan and the around world.
