Hi friends! This is a family friendly hike to a lovely alpine lake. ***Since I first posted this hike I've gotten quite a few questions about the name of the lake- why Cutthroat? I've researched online and haven't found a clear answer. There is a fish named the Cutthroat Trout, and that's all I can find. I noticed there is also a Cutthroat Lake in Utah, so that seems like a logical answer. The mountain peak there is named Cutthroat Peak, then there is Cutthroat Pass through the mountains, and below that Cutthroat Lake and Cutthroat Creek. The trailhead is easily accessed from Highway 20, the North Cascades Highway, just east of Washington Pass. The trail is very close to where the Pacific Crest Trail, the PCT, crosses Cutthroat Pass. It's in Eastern Washington, and a much drier environment, so the trees and plants are different than what we see in Western Washington. I hope you can visit and enjoy the area! wildlife: fish a frog dragonflies grouse wildflowers: bog gentian fringed grass of parnassus Hiked September 2, 2022 4 miles (6.4 km) 400’ elevation gain (122 M) Cutthroat Peak, Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cutthro...
