Alex's cover of the Cream classic "Politician" has garnered overwhelming praise for its gritty approach, powerful guitar work along with Steve Roberts' poignant spot-on vocals. Rock and Blues Muse said "The song is gritty, grungy and unpolished in a polished way that only outstanding musicians can muster. Lopez’s over driven guitar work is almost chill-worthy, pushing things to the edge. This isn’t a Cream copy though—it’s Alex Lopez’s interpretation and it rocks." Music critic John Mueller said "the ultimate power trio . This is best showcased on their cover of " Cream's " classic , " Politician " , where vocals are handled by bassist Steve Roberts , Ginger Baker's powerful pounding is exemplified by Kana Leimbach, and Alex is given plenty of space to take flight on his extended solo ." Other critics have simply called it "an inspired version of a rock classic" Says Alex "The song was the staple of the live show for years and became a high-light; the fans seemed to love it so much I decide we needed to put it on the album" Continues Alex "performing this song is one of the most fun moments have as I get to relax a bit and hand over the vocal duties to Steve who does an amazing job, and I actually get to be a guitar player" The song was equally fun to record, as Alex says "producer George Harris(from Creative World Recording) and I had fun on that one, we experimented with tuning and got this amazing guitar tone, the solos were completely improvised so they have a real loose relaxed feel - I tried to imagine myself being in 1967 recording this song live and asking myself how would Eric do it, I think that comes across" The end of the song was a completely unrehearsed impromptu moment, "So I'm playing the end section live in the control room with George essentially 2 feet away and hit the last note (a low D) when George just reaches up grabs the tuning peg on the guitar and starts de-tuning it nothing...I'm glad I instinctively didn't pull away and the result was a cool song ending I've frankly never heard done like that before, George is just amazing with those things" says Alex. Business wise - Getting the song recorded was relatively easy acquiring the proper licensing but getting a synch license to promote it was a challenge. "it was a hit or miss proposition would Warner be ok with a relatively unknown artist promoting this song? but they liked our version and with a few restrictions issued the license" The original with its powerful lyrics and mesmerizing guitar riffs, has become an anthem for those seeking to unravel the complexities of politics and power dynamics. The song’s meaning can be interpreted in various ways, but at its core, it serves as a critique of the deceptive nature of politics and those who hold positions of power. (Rick Lester). This subject is still relevant today and while the video stays relatively safe and out of controversy there a hint of "power to the people" in it as well. Says Alex "I've only done one other cover over 7 albums but putting out Politician seemed the right song on the right album at the right time" Enjoy the song "Politician" from the new top ten Blues Billboard charting album "Looking for a change" available everywhere...
