Speaker: Francis Yao, MD, FAASLD Professor of Clinical Medicine and Surgery Director of Hepatology Medical Director, Liver Transplant Program Co-Director, Asian Liver Health Center University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) About the Speaker: Dr. Francis Yao is internationally recognized for his seminal contributions to the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), particularly in the context of liver transplantation. He is best known for developing what is now widely known as the UCSF criteria, which expanded transplant eligibility beyond the traditional Milan criteria, as well as the UCSF down-staging protocol using locoregional therapy prior to liver transplantation — a strategy that has since been adopted into national transplant policy. Dr. Yao has authored or co-authored more than 150 original research publications, invited editorials, reviews, and book chapters. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (FAASLD), was the 2016 Honoree of the Northern California American Liver Foundation, and has been elected a “Master Clinician” in the Department of Medicine at UCSF.
