Everything you need to know about using Union Station if your visiting Washington, D.C. for the first time. https://hotelsneardcmetro.com/hotels-... Map of DC Metro / Union Station https://hotelsneardcmetro.com/ ******************* 0:00 - Intro 0:10 - Washington, D.C. Train Systems Amtrak, MARC, VRE 0:30 - Why You Shouldn't Stay Near Union Station 0:54 - Amtrak Station in Washington, D.C. ******************* Full Transcript: Hi, I’m Katie, a D.C. resident and author of the website HotelsNearDCMetro.com Let’s talk about arriving at Union Station and finding a place to stay in D.C. If you’re arriving in D.C. on Amtrak, VRE, or MARC trains you’ll likely consider Union Station as the best way to access D.C. Union Station connects with the D.C. Metro system, and the D.C. Circulator Bus which gives tourists a direct lift to many of the major attractions along the National Mall. It might seem intuitive to look for a hotel around Union Station, but this isn’t an area we recommend for tourists visiting for the first time. For starters, the hotels near Union Station are expensive, and the surrounding neighborhood is often criticized by tourists. For these reasons we suggest looking elsewhere for a hotel, even if that means staying at an alternative location in downtown. Another alternative would be to consider a hotel near one of the Amtrak stations that shares a platform with the D.C. Metro in Maryland and Virginia. The New Carrollton Station in the suburbs of Maryland between D.C. and Baltimore is a good option if you’re flying into BWI. Another option is the King Street station in the heart of downtown Alexandria south of D.C. along I-95 in Virginia. And finally, north of D.C. in the suburbs of Maryland the Metro and Amtrak connect at the Rockville Station.
