Freediving in Barracuda Lake, Philippines

During my freedive in Barracuda Lake on Coron Island, I experienced one of the most unusual underwater environments I’ve ever seen. The lake, formed in an ancient volcanic crater, revealed towering limestone cliffs both above and below the surface, with sunlight cutting through the water in dramatic beams. As I descended, I passed through the inverted thermocline, where the water unexpectedly grew warmer the deeper I went, wrapping me in a strange but comforting heat. Together with my friends, we spent a long time exploring, floating in silence, and even playfully “climbing” along the sharp vertical rocks underwater. It was a mix of fun, awe, and reflection - an experience that left me with a lasting sense of calm and wonder.
