From the UK first pressing of “Picture Book”. 1985. Hope you enjoy this famous track, straight from the vinyl of this analogue recording. I used the Croft tube phono stage alone for this track. I did another take using the Croft/B1 buffer combo (which gave deeper bass extension) but felt the straight Croft version was more natural in the the top end and had more tube vocal magic. The standard digital versions of this track (the ones on YouTube at least) are quite compressed. This vinyl pressing has a larger dynamic range - from the start (where it’s relatively quieter than the digital versions) and gets progressively louder towards the vocal peak near the end of the track. You’ll have to turn up the volume to enjoy this rip and get that extra dynamic range. The YT digital versions are here: • Holding Back the Years • Holding Back the Years (2008 Remaster) If you want the full 24/96 WAV file it’s here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GAv5xWKt4... A 16/44.1 Flac file is also here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YV3cCOS2n... I spent a long time doing manual click removal to get rid of any distracting clicks. I wanted the intro in particular to be very clean. In the second verse click removal was more difficult due to some longer background noises but I did what I could. If you are interested to hear this track untouched/without the manual click removal the file is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_Lt8S7eHf... Every click you can hear was manually removed or smoothed one by one using Audacity. It took many hours. I don’t like any kind of automatic click removal software as it degrades audio quality. Manual click removal doesn’t degrade quality and the result gives a quieter background so you can hear more detail IMO. I can hear some synth parts in the track I didn’t hear properly before for example. At some point I’ll put up the other rip of this track I did using the Croft/B1 Buffer Combo. It isn’t quite a lucid and clear in the top end but is a bit more full range with a bigger and more extended bass.
