Cigar Review My Father Fonseca When Smoked: October 2024 Obtained from: 10-pack purchased online Rested/aged 8 months in my humidor Size: Cedros (6.25 inches x 54) Approximate cost: US$10 See ratings below In this video I review the My Father Fonseca cigar, in the Cedros vitola. The Fonseca brand is one of those parallel Cuban brands, the US version of a brand that has been around since 1892. My Father purchased the non-Cuban cigar market rights from Quesada in 2019. Quesada had developed what I’d call a cult following for Fonseca, but by and large it wasn’t a major selling brand. My Father bought the brand primarily because Don Pepin Garcia had an affinity for it, actually having done the blending on some of the Fonseca Cuban versions before he fled the country. Looking at the Fonseca, it is a beautiful looking cigar. A gorgeous Rosado wrapper with a cedar sleeve and gold foot band. This cigar is billed as medium-full by most sellers, but the truth is that it is really a tale of three different smoking experiences. But first let’s talk construction – this is an extremely well made cigar (as you would expect from My Father) with generally good burn and very good draw. As I mention in the video, this is the last one of a 10-pack that I’ve been chipping away at for the last eight months, so I have some experience with this stick. They have all been very well constructed and consistent. Not to get off on a tangent here, but for me, consistency is critically important. There are many good cigars on the market, but the truly great ones give a superior experience every time you light one up. Flavor and body is where the three different experiences come in. The first two inches is straight medium, creamy with medium body and cedar, vanilla and nut taste. But My Father’s influence kicks in and the middle part of the cigar is medium full. The last two or two-and-a-half inches are downright full bodied with quite a bit of spice (pepper) replacing the creaminess. I rated this cigar a 8.5/10. At $10 or so retail it’s not a bad deal. If you haven’t gotten into My Father cigars and are a bit gun shy about full bodied smokes, the Fonseca would be a good entry point.
