1P~1M: Extraterrestrial Geology at the atomic scale

What if I tell you that we can look at geological samples that are nanometers in scale and even see individual atoms constituent? In this 2020 paper, we combine a technique called FIB-ToF-SIMS with Atom Probe Tomography and inspected grain particles recovered from the asteroid Itokawa. We discovered weird exsolutions structures which origin, we still don’t fully understand (maybe you can help us?). This paper was published in 2020 in Microscopy and Microanalysis. I am a professor at the school of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the director of the Western Australia Argon Isotope Facility, which is part the John De Laeter Centre at Curtin University.
