Distal Gastrectomy - Dr. Miguel Burch

The patient is a 74-year-old woman, who presented iron deficiency anemia to her primary care physician. That anemia was worked up with an endoscopy and a small ulcer was found. The ulcer was biopsies and results came back with poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the stomach intestinal type. The patient subsequently underwent an endoscopic ultrasound which revealed a T2 lesion with N0 disease. Given her age and comorbidity profile, the recommendation is to proceed with an operation instead of new adjuvant therapy. Interestingly, the patient was treated for lymphoma last year with chemotherapy so yet more reason to avoid a new adjuvant therapy at this point.
