This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Suddenly immersed in the pastoral and diverse landscape of a new home in a new country, Fesser examines how diversity and immigration have fostered a rich and colorful source material for creativity and joy. Guillermo Fesser is a Spanish journalist mostly known in his country for his innovative morning radio talk show, Gomaespuma, which ran 20 years and had over 1 million listeners. Fesser studied journalism at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid and filmmaking at the University of Southern California via a Fulbright scholarship. He has written scripts with his brother, film director Javier Fesser, and directed the movie Candida. Guillermo has edited and hosted news programs for Spain’s Public Television, TVE, and produced a puppet series for Tele5, based on the advice of puppeteer Kermit Love, the creator of Big Bird. Fesser lives with his family in Rhinebeck, New York, where he broadcasts weekly stories on life in small-town America to Onda Cero Radio in Spain, writes for the Sunday Magazine of El Pais and blogs for The Huffington Post. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
