Basically puranams are segregated into ten sections. They are sargah puranam dealing with the creation of our solar system, visargah is about creation of planets, vruthi is all about the evolution of life, Raksha is all about the sustainability of nature. Antarani is all about the history of time and measurement of time. Vamsa is about the family tree of various human species. Even today you can see this practice of recording their family tree in many of our Indian families. Vamsanucharita is all about the rulers, kings and dynasties samstha is about the natural calamities that has occurred. Hetu is about the prime causes for this calamities. And finally apasarayah is about the super humans and history of great people. Apart from these ten categories of documentation, Maharshi vedavyasa has documented all events through is eighteen puranas matsya purana, kurma purana, varaha purana, Vishnu purana , vamana purana , markhandeya purana, Bhagavata purana, bhavishya purana, brahmanda purana, brahma purana, brahmavaivarta purana, vaayu purana, agni purana, narada purana, padma purana, linga purana, garuda purana, and skanda purana. Then the fourth category of our knowledge system is Ithihasam. Itihasam is the subject Social studies of today. It basically deals with historical events that happened in our land and also its precise geographical locations. Itihasam consists of two great literatures. Ramayanam and Mahabharatham.
