In spring maize, pre-emergence herbicides like atrazine or s-metolachlor are effective if applied right after sowing and before germination. In sugarcane, atrazine and metribuzin are commonly used for early weed control, while 2,4-D can be used carefully for broadleaf weeds at proper crop stage.
