They are very worried about their fate and so are we, the Indonesian people. Therefore, once again, I would like to touch your hearts and plead for the release of the two journalists so that they can return safely to Indonesia." 10. Yudhoyono leaving room STORYLINE: After a video was released on Friday showing two missing Indonesian journalists flanked by masked gunmen, the Indonesian president appealed to the militants holding them, asking for their release. The pair had been missing since Tuesday after they were seen being stopped by unidentified men in military uniforms in the turbulent Iraqi city of Ramadi. In a statement made to APTN Indonesia''s president asked for the pair''s release. "I am Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia, and I can guarantee that the two journalists were only carrying out their professional duties and that they were not involved in the conflict in Iraq," he said. Coming from the largest Muslim country in the world, Yudhoyono said the people of Indonesia are very interested in what is happening in Iraq. Yudhoyono asked the kidnappers to free the journalists so they could home return to Indonesia. A video also released on Friday showed the two missing Indonesian journalists flanked by masked gunmen. The video, delivered anonymously to Associated Press Television News, showed a man and a woman squinting in the bright sunlight and holding up passports and identification badges from the Indonesia television station Metro TV. The documents identified them as 26-year-old Meutya Viada Hafid and Budiyanto, 36, a cameraman who, as is common in Indonesia, goes by one name. The people in the photo identifications appeared to be the same as the people shown in the video. The names of the missing journalists had been released earlier by Metro TV, a 24-hour cable network. A voice speaking off camera on the video said the journalists were being held by the Mujahedeen in Iraq, a group about which little is known. The group was last heard of in March 2004, when a statement attributed to them was circulated in Ramadi, an insurgent stronghold about 110 kilometres (70 miles) west of Baghdad. Ramadi has been the scene of frequent terrorist attacks and clashes between militants and US forces and their Iraqi allies.
