In today's demo I will be showing you why you don't need a wide variety of colors in order to paint a beautifully balanced painting. Sometimes less really is more! In fact, limiting your color palette will instantly give your paintings a more cohesive and professional appearance because your colors will no longer compete for attention, but will feel harmonious instead. You can start by using a red such as quinacridone magenta or alizarin crimson, a yellow such as process yellow or cadmium yellow medium, a blue such as cerulean or Payne's gray, and a white such as titanium white or parchment by Liquitex. I suggest you play with color mixing a create a color mixing chart for yourself. This will open your eyes to the possibilities that can be achieved with only 3 or 4 main colors on your palette. Note that even though I used the color green gold, I certainly could have eliminated it and mixed Payne's gray and cadmium yellow medium to make an equally beautiful range of green colors. Try it! The painting in the video is titled "Petal Fusion" and is available on my website: https://www.kathleenrietz.com/floral-... Paint colors used: Payne's gray, green gold, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow medium + parchment & titanium white as my whites. Mediums used: Glazing liquid, matte gel medium. Tools: Catalyst silicone wedge, blending brush, filbert brush, sumi brush.
