Untold story of Sobhaneswar Mahadev Temple Niali | India's Biggest Nandi | Tourist Place in Cuttack Sobaneshwar is a 12th-century heritage site built by King Anangabhima Deva II (1190-98) of the Ganga dynasty. This Hindu temple is situated on the left side of the holy river Prachi. It is a protected monument of the State Department of Archaeology, with an inscription on the eastern wall of the Jagamohan stating that the temple was built by a Nagavamsi king named Vidyanath, possibly a vassal of the Ganga rulers and maybe renovated by him. There appears to be a Natiya Mandapa (dance hall) at the main entrance to the temple compound. The presiding deity here is Harihara, the composite representation of Vishnu (Hari) and Shiva (Hara). The main festivals celebrated here are related to Lord Shiva like Mahashivratri, but festivals related to Vishnu are also celebrated here.
