Southern Columbia 59 - Mount Carmel 57 GAME REPLAY AT:https://fan.hudl.com/usa/pa/catawissa... With 11 seconds left in a tie game Wednesday game, Southern Columbia inbounded the ball to senior Nate Gallagher. With Mount Carmel’s Jaylen Delaney guarding him, Gallagher drove to the basket. “Delaney had good ‘D,’ and he cut me off,” Gallagher said. “I looked up at the clock and there was about six seconds left as I was driving. I knew I had to get some type of shot, something on the rim. Luckily, it went in.” The shot was a turnaround, fadeaway jumper from close that went in, giving the Tigers a 59-57 win. “Coach called out, ‘Flat,’ which is a flat screen for me to get to the rim,” Gallagher said. “I just got downhill and I spun. I know it sounds crazy but ... that’s actually a shot I work on: the turnaround, fade jumper. It hasn’t been falling for me for a while, but it fell tonight in a really big spot.” Mount Carmel had 1.9 seconds left, but couldn’t get off a shot. “We played really well,” Mount Carmel coach John Lazicki said. “Hat’s off to them. Gallagher hit a big shot. I told the kids, ‘We didn’t lose this game. They beat us at the end.’ It could have gone either way.” “That was a barnburner, man,” Southern Columbia coach Mike Woytowich said. “That was a tough game. Give Mount Carmel credit. They played well; they had a good game plan, and they shot the ball extremely well. We had just enough grit to hang on at the end.” Southern did take a shot early in the possession, but senior Braydon Griscavage flew in to grab an offensive rebound with 35 seconds left, allowing his team to reset. “Just watching him go after that ball, he wasn’t going to be denied there,” Woytowich said. “He’s a senior playing Mount Carmel. They wanted to go out on top with a big win. ... The senior group, they weren’t going out of here without the win. I saw that on the rebound. He went and got it.” Griscavage finished with nine rebounds, four offensive, with the last one being the biggest. “I just read the ball pretty well off the shot,” Griscavage said. “There was no one boxing me out. I saw Jude (Lazicki) in the middle, and I was like, ‘All right, I’ve got to get up before him.’” After a turnover of their own, the Tigers tied the game on a fastbreak layup by Blaise Kissinger with 1:45 to play. Kissinger, who finished with five points, hit a 3-pointer to put Southern Columbia ahead 55-54 midway through the final period. “He is an unlikely source, so to speak,” Woytowich said of Kissinger. “The layup, that’s his game: getting downhill to the rim and he’s very athletic. That one didn’t surprise me. The 3, give him credit. He was open, and he took it. He didn’t hesitate. If you hesitate, you probably miss those shots. He had enough guts, whatever you want to call it, to catch and shoot.” “I think it was just the atmosphere honestly,” Gallagher said. “All the kids came out, all my friends. ... It was my last time playing cross-town rival Mount Carmel, and we had to get it done. It was awesome getting it done in front of all these fans. That’s something you really dream about.” Jude Lazicki, who finished with game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds, scored the Red Tornadoes’ first 10 points. Delaney added 16 points and a team-high five assists for Mount Carmel. Gallagher led the Tigers with 16 points and a game-high seven assists. Jake Gehret (13 points) and Jace Malakoski (12) also reached double figures for Southern Columbia, which was happy to win the rivalry contest. “It’s a school rivalry thing,” Griscavage said. “No matter how good the teams are it’s going to be close. It’s a mind game, too. It felt really good to come out and beat them.” Mount Carmel 17 10 18 12 — 57 Southern Columbia 18 10 15 16 — 59 Mount Carmel (57) Michael Kaleta 1 0-0 2, Jude Lazicki 8 4-8 25, Marshall Mirarchi 0 0-0 0, Logan Pizzoli 3 0-0 9, Danny Snyder 1 2-2 5, Jaylen Delaney 5 6-6 16, Elijah Rempel 0 0-0 0 Totals 18 12-16 57 Southern Columbia (59) Nate Gallagher 5 4-4 16, Jake Gehret 4 1-2 13, Ben Gehret 3 1-2 8, Anthony Martino 0 0-0 0, Blaise Kissinger 2 0-2 5, Andrew Yost 0 0-0 0, Braydon Griscavage 2 1-2 5, Jace Malakoski 5 0-1 12 Totals 21 7-13 59 3-point goals: Mount Carmel 9 (Lazicki 5, Pizzoli 3, Snyder) Southern Columbia 10 (J.
