"We don't have to travel to far away places to learn amazing things about evolution and ecology. Scott Taylor and his research lab at CU Boulder are studying backyard birds in Boulder CO to better understand how human-caused changes to the environment are fundamentally changing the way that species interact. This talk challenges you to pay attention to what's happening in your backyard, think about hybrids, and remember how cool pegacorns are. " Scott Taylor is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder where he leads the Taylor Lab on hybridization, speciation, and natural history (https://www.colorado.edu/lab/taylor/). He joined the faculty after completing a Ph.D. in ecological genetics from Queen’s University and pursuing postdoctoral training at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Research in his group is focused on using natural hybrid zones and recent radiations to understand the genetic bases of traits involved in reproductive isolation, population divergence, and speciation, and the impacts of anthropogenic change, including climate change, on species distributions, interactions, and evolution. His lab primarily studies birds. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
