Some tips for keeping you backcountry camp safe from bears. The main thing to rememeber about bears is that they smell EVERYTHING, and they like all the same foods you do. Do keep bears out of your camp, follow these three simple rules: 1. Store your food and anything that smells (toiletries, garbage, pots etc.) where a bear can't get it - in a tree or a bear proof container. 2. Store your food, cook, and sleep in different spots 100 m away from each other. 3. Don't be a slob!! Pack out your garbage and food scraps. Don't burn them or leave them. Try not to spill.
