Our whole lives, we’re told “work hard and you’ll succeed.” But this is just a myth. Success is deadly. The idea of having a villain arc is thrown around a lot these days, so let’s look at the issue of success through successful villains; Lelouch from Code Geass, Makishima from Psycho-Pass, and Light from Death Note. Charismatic, pretty, smart, and even more, these anime villains will top almost anyone’s list. But, why do we actually love them? Is it because they represent how we feel in a world which robs us of value? I think this is what these anime villains represent, as the stars of Code Geass, Psycho-Pass, and Death Note all don’t actually find “success,” but rather chase personal goals. Lelouch wants kindness, Makishima connection, and Light justice. They’re all relatively privileged, but fight for these things anyway? Why? Because success is a myth. What we’re told to chase can never satisfy us, and we’re left empty and void in a corrupt world. These anime villains represent us better than real world success, which seen through the likes of billionaires such as Elon Musk, Bill Gates, or Jeff Bezos, is actually cartoony. They all got a head start, whatever they like to preach about their success. Let’s examine them and show how much of a myth it really is. This is why we hate billionaires, why we love villains, and why success is a lie. #anime #codegeass #psychopass #deathnote #professorviral 0:00 0 | Introduction 4:22 0.1 | Code Geass 5:56 0.2 | Psycho-Pass 7:46 0.3 | Death Note 9:15 0.4 | Other Anime 10:20 1 | Ones to Love 17:08 2 | Ones to Hate 28:26 3 | Ones to Be 30:12 3.1 | Death Note 31:54 3.2 | Psycho-Pass 34:30 3.3 | Code Geass 37:01 3.4 | The Rest 39:10 4 | Be the Villain
