In the first episode of Inner Sound, I sit down with pianist, composer, and musical director Niji Adeleye to reflect on their time touring together with Charlie Puth and to explore the deeper questions that shape an artist’s inner life. We talk about the connection between music and God, growing up making music in church, the psychological and spiritual risks of attaching one’s identity to a gig, and how an artist learns to stay grounded while moving through major stages, tours, and transitions. The conversation also touches on Niji’s upbringing, his relationship to faith, and the evolution of his original music. Niji Adeleye is a London-born, New York City–based pianist, composer, and musical director. He has toured with Harry Styles, SAULT, Cleo Sol, Stormzy, and Charlie Puth, performs regularly at Madison Square Garden for the New York Knicks, and has released acclaimed original projects including Better Days Ahead and ORIKI.
