As conflict continues across the globe, are we getting any better at dealing with its aftermath? There are currently more than 30 armed conflicts continuing across the world. Some grab global headlines – the likes of Syria and Yemen – others are smaller skirmishes in places like Paraguay and Mozambique. But even as the fighting continues, the hope is always they will end in peace, and reconciliation between the warring factions. But how exactly is that to be done? On this edition of The Agenda, Stephen Cole talks to Lord John Alderdice, former leader of Northern Ireland’s Alliance party, about his role in the Good Friday agreement which brought peace to the region after decades of religious division. And we hear from peace campaigner Candice Mama – who insists forgiveness is the only possible path to true reconciliation. And we speak to the CEO of NGO Peace Direct, Dylan Matthews and Jake Lynch, Associate Professor of Peace & Conflict studies at Sydney University about how we plan for peace, and whether there can ever be a one size fits all approach to global reconciliation.
