The PIL is not filed by the affected persons and anyone on their behalf can file the PIL before the court. The subjects on which PIL can be filed before the Supreme Court are environment, law and order, condition of women, Bonded labour and other related issues. The bilateral disputes between landlord and tenant, marital disputes of husband and wife can be filed in a PIL. Public interest litigation is the power given to the public by courts through judicial activism. However, the person filing the petition must prove to the satisfaction of the court that the petition is being filed for a public interest and not just as a frivolous litigation by him.
