Five years ago I posted that Peter's time in youth baseball had come to an end, and I had been overwhelmed with a sadness. Now, we again face another finality as we watch his childhood fade and the young man emerge. This day (Sunday, October 5th 2024), we will watch our '67' jog onto the field for the last time. These games today represent the final ones of his travel baseball career. Again I find myself awash in sadness and reflection. When we started this journey, we had no idea what it entailed or where it would lead. So many teammates, families, cities, and fields of all kinds. Most important, so many memories. So again I turned to my form of theapy. Five years ago I spent a night in Cooperstown NY going through pictures and putting my thoughts and feelings into a poem 'What He Doesn't Know'. Now I'm at home, looking through pictures and creating a new version of 'What He Doesn't Know'. And as before, thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey with us, and thank you to anyone taking the time to read all my ramblings and look through the pictures of our life. What He Doesn’t Know 2024 He can read the spin on a curveball Knows how big a lead to take Knows the feel of a game in the fall And friends the game can make He knows the thrill of a big win He knows failure as well Knows how to get the run in And what the delivery can tell But what he doesn’t know Is what these years have meant to me Spent just watching him grow Hiding my tears so he can’t see He knows how to pick up a teammate Knows how to field a bad hop Knows it takes hard work to be great And how to make the ball pop He knows how to get up and get ready Knows just what he needs Knows to stay strong and steady No matter where the game leads But still, what he doesn’t know How proud I am to be his dad How hard it is to let these days go Holding on to each one, good and bad And I know he doesn't know this But he’s better than me Just being with him is what I’ll miss my boy is all I want him to be #baseball #travelbaseball #sportsvideo #sports #ny #tbt #youthsports #youthbaseball
