In this video we go on a whirlwind 6 minute architectural tour of Liverpool, a tour through time, visiting 50 Liverpool buidings in the city centre and further out. Liverpool's 20th century architecture is rich and varied, but my selection is perhaps a little bit random, with many famous and some not-so-famous landmarks, some people often overlook, some you can't overlook. 00:00 Introduction by AidanEyewitness 00:59 Liverpool buildings 1900 1917 02:50 Inter-war Liverpool buildings 04:18 Panorama of Liverpool after the Blitz 04:31 Post-war Liverpool buildings 1955 onwards 07:05 A note about the Queen and Liverpool Out of hundreds of possible buildings I've selected fifty, partly based on what I found in Wikipedia and using photographs already in my archive. On Sunday 11 September, I photographed the buildings I had not already captured on digital or film. It was the mourning period for the Queen and I discovered many references to the Queen in Liverpool as well as earlier queens, for instance the Queensway Tunnel, Queens Dock and Queens Drive. We have the Queen Elizabeth the Second courts and there's a reference to the QE2 liner, part of the heritage of Cunard. To set the pace and mood, I used three excellent pieces of music from the YouTube Audio Library 'Stellar Wind' by Unicorn Heads as well as 'Straight Fuse' and 'Target Fuse' by French Fuse. Most photos are by Aidan O'Rourke aka AidanEyewitness. Others are from Wikipedia, photographers are credited, some are public domain. A PDF copy of the script of this video is available to students I teach but if you're interested in obtaining a free copy, please get in touch! Auf Wiedersehen in Liverpool! By the way I use German at the beginning and end as I am a German speaker and it's a part of my identity. I teach German online as well as English as a Foreign Language. I am a cultural ambassador between both language areas. What I do is very interesting! If you'd like to know more, please get in touch.
