A few clips to compare before and after Rowan Astronomy belt drive replacement. I must stress that the "before version" already had been serviced and attempted fine tuned as much as I could. Originally it had a lot more backlash, both in worm drive and in the pinion/spur-gears. Too much spacing over all simply. I have yet not tested the serviced gear-variant nor belt-drive variant with guiding... poor weather as usual. But it seems to me that if the stock gears are fine tuned, you should be able to get pretty close to the belt drive accuracy/performance. However, I suspect that the belt drive is much more service free for the future. I would say the most challenging part with the replacement job was: Getting the motor-wiring right as it was very twisted in between other wiring Free wheel of belt and belt spur drive was very tight fit I used tools from my R/C cars collection, Hudy and 3Racing.
