Saghatelian Lab Tour | Proteins & Mass Spectrometry | Salk Institute Research

Learn more about the Saghatelian Lab: https://saghatelian.salk.edu/ Peptides and metabolites are two important classes of biological molecules, referred to as small molecules. Many prevalent diseases are linked to changes in the levels of these small molecules, for example lower levels of the peptide insulin leads to diabetes while higher levels of the metabolite cholesterol causes heart disease. Alan Saghatelian’s lab works to develop and apply new strategies in mass spectrometry to overcome technical challenges in detecting these small molecules. This research will help scientists identify the small molecules that are changing during a disease and pave the way for new therapeutics to improve human health.
