En Palestine et en terre d'Oman Various – Chants révolutionnaires d'Oman Label: Disques Vendémiaire Format: Vinyl, LP Country: France Released: 1977 Photography By – Christian Freund, Michel Humeau ~ ~ ~ The Dhofar Rebellion (1965–1976) was a Marxist-led insurgency in Oman’s Dhofar region, aimed to create an independent state in Dhofar, free from the rule of the Omani Sultan Said bin Taimur and ending British influence in the Persian Gulf region. The UK sought to maintain regional influence to secure access to strategic oil resources. Initially engaging in guerilla warfare, the Dhofar Liberation Front, supported by newly independent South Yemen, China and the Soviet Union managed to controll the entirety of the Jebel region by the late 1960s. Following a British-supported coup by Sultan Qaboos bin Said against his father in 1970, the UK expanded its military presence deploying the SAS, while aso modernising the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces. Together with the Shah of Iran's intervention in the conflict to support the Sultanate of Oman, ultimately the rebellion was suppressed in 1976 and Western access to oil secured.
