In the shallow waters of Lake Erie, a fish older than most modern species is still quietly holding on. The Spotted Gar has lived in these waters since long before shorelines were altered and wetlands disappeared. Today, only a few populations remain in Ontario, scattered, vulnerable, and easy to overlook. Giigoonh | The Last Quiet Waters, a WorkCabin Films independent conservation documentary, follows a researcher who has spent years returning to the same waters, season after season, studying a species that doesn’t announce itself and rarely draws attention. The work is slow. Sometimes uncertain. And essential. The storytelling focuses on patience, careful science, long mornings on the lake, and the belief that understanding a species is the first step toward protecting it. Giigoonh is a conservation documentary about paying attention before something disappears quietly. Currently in production. ------------- WorkCabin Films is based in the Carolinian forests of southern Ontario, in the heart of the Long Point Biosphere Region, an internationally recognized landscape of remarkable biodiversity. Surrounded by wetlands, forests, and the Big Creek National Wildlife Area, we live and work where conservation is part of daily life. Our proximity to these landscapes keeps us connected to the field — literally — and it shapes how we see, listen, and tell stories that reflect the pulse of the natural world. We believe that the stories that change people are the stories that move people.
