This has been a long time coming and in hindsight I probably should've done this and Project Wingman a lot sooner. But with it being Ace Combat 7's 5th anniversary today, now seems as good as time as ever to finally do a playthrough of this amazing game. (Here's hoping it'll give me enough incentive to get to the other games in my collection) So to give a quick lowdown, this playthrough will cover all 20 missions of the main campaign, plus the 3 DLC missions, all on Ace difficulty. It's crazy to think it was 5 years ago today this came out, although I wouldn't get the chance to play it since the PC version wouldn't become available until February that year. Shows how time flies eh? Even so, I'd say the game has aged fairly well, and sheer amount of people (both veterans of series and newcomers alike) playing it to this day is a testament to that. I mean heck the game has sold over 5 million copies making it the most successful game in the series since Ace Combat 04, so that must mean something. And of course the modding community, which since this game's launch, has really gone into overdrive and tuned out some truely outstanding mods, and worked to uncover many of this game's secrets left buried during development. Sure, it's not entirely perfect as we may've liked. The story could do with some touching up to better explain things. There are gameplay elements that could've been better implemented. And there are of course a great many missed opportunities that perhaps should've been taken. But bear in mind the fact this game almost got cancelled during development, aren't we glad to even have it at all? And besides, what we got in the end was more than passable (imo). It was return to form, to greatness, to what truely makes Ace Combat the great series it is.
